About the Exhibition

The Harlesden Neighbourhood Forum is proud to present a major exhibition celebrating the work of acclaimed photographer and long-time Harlesden resident, Roy Mehta.

Curated by local experts Marco Ferrara and Simmi Dullay, this showcase brings together a profound selection of photographs that reflect Mehta’s unique connection to the area.

Roy Mehta stands as one of the most important visual chroniclers of Brent’s multicultural history. Through an intimate, deeply human lens, his work documents everyday life in Harlesden and across the wider borough during a period of enormous social and cultural change.

At a time when these communities were frequently misrepresented by mainstream media, Mehta’s photographs captured the true dignity, warmth, and vibrant diversity of local people. This exhibition is an invaluable visual archive of our collective past preserving the stories, identities, and lived experiences that helped shape modern Brent.

"Mehta’s commitment was to represent communities from within, rather than as an outside observer. His work remains highly significant today, bridging the gap between our rich history and our future."

Investing in the Next Generation

This exhibition represents both a celebration of British documentary photography and a direct investment in local creative talent.

Part of a wider employment and training initiative, the project is giving over 20 young local people hands-on, paid experience in the arts and cultural sector. Supported by the Young Brent Foundation, Wembley Stadium Foundation, and Brent Council, these young individuals are working directly alongside the curatorial team—assisting with the exhibition installation, learning gallery management, and serving as event invigilators.
